Doris B. Campbell

Doris B. Campbell

Doris Helen Burgess Campbell passed away this week after battling cancer. In the days and weeks leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by loved ones from near and far.

Doris lived an amazing life, which included a multitude of hobbies, past-times, expertise, a little luck, lots of family and creating some of the best desserts you’ve ever had! Throughout her life, she could be found taking care of one of her and her husband’s (Les Campbell) ten children (Adam, Andrew, Paul, James, Carl, Tina, Kathleen,Robert, Linda and Les Jr.) or perhaps one of the many “foster” kids that routinely found their way to her and Les’ home over the years.

As the years progressed, that love of family only grew as raising children gave way to raising grandchildren (somewhere around 35 at last count) and great-grandchildren (who is in charge of counting these ones?). One thing Doris was always known for was making sure everyone had enough to eat, whether it was around the supper table, donating to the food pantries, bringing random boxes of food to her kids when she visited or adding extra French-toast casserole to a customer’s plate at her restaurant in Mayville (Pandora’s Kitchen). She loved spending time with her older sister, Betty Burgess Anderson, which generally included a deck of cards, a piece of paper to keep score, a few bentrules and lots of trash talking. At any given time, Doris could also be found digging for treasure withAdam at the “$5 store”, stopping in to see friends like Richard and Crystal at the Eagles Club (which mayeven include yelling at the refs during the Chiefs/Bills game), painting cows with Laura, teaching Tinahow to sew, whipping up a giant pan of chicken picata with her grandkids, packing her bags for an upcoming cruise with Paul and Michelle, teaching Drew how to catch a cooler full of fish, taking the Millers and Troyers on a shopping run, waiting on wings and crisscross fries at the Tavern with Les orcracking inappropriate jokes with Fred at the Black Jack table. The experiences and names of thosetouched by her spirit are far too many to list here, but one thing is true, she always brought love andlaughter with her.

She’s been called home now to be with her parents (Marie Alberta Timmerman and James F. Burgess),her husband Les Campbell and the too numerous ones we’ve lost along the way. We love you Pandora, it won’t be the same without you.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Abbe Reformed Church, 595 Clymer- Sherman Road, Clymer, from 12 pm-2pm, where a funeral service will follow at 2 pm.
