Karen E SaGurney, 74, of Lakewood, NY, passed away Thursday August 1, 2024, in Star Hospice House, Lakewood, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease.
Karen was born October 7, 1949, in Jamestown, the eldest of four daughters of Edward W. and Marilyn E. (Harrison) Peiffer.
She was a 1968 graduate of Southwestern Central School.
Karen had numerous jobs over the years starting early while in school at her grandparents’ store, the former Pifer’s Superette on East Terrace Avenue in Lakewood. Then on to the former Jamesway Store, and as office manager of Morgan Linen on Second Street. Then working at Nelson and Butts Greenhouse, Quality Markets Floral Warehouse, Quality Markets store floral departments, and manager of the Tops Floral Department at the Washington Street store. And from 1983-1993 she and her husband owned and operated the Stedman Corner General Store.
Karen’s interests ranged from walking and painting classes and crafting to her flower gardens at home; to teaching others the ways of gardening and floral design. She always enjoyed her sons’ school activities and sporting events, even though she didn’t always understand the rules. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren developing their own interests and was very proud of them.
Surviving is her husband of 55 years Gary J. SaGurney; two sons Matthew R. (Jody) SaGurney and Jonathan J. (Pam) SaGurney; two grandchildren Metta Mae and Wes SaGurney; two sisters Sandra (Brian) Kearney and Linda Ecker; Aunt Betty Sager and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Sueann Britton and brothers in law William Britton and Norm Ecker.
As per Karen’s wishes no funeral service or visitation will be observed at this time. A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date.
