Jane Elizabeth Gesing

She was born in Jamestown on May 19, 1949, a daughter of the late Clarence W. and Louise Rein Ahlgren and was a 1967 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Jane attended Jamestown Community College and ultimately earned her associate degree at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. She moved to Fortuna, California in 1970 to go to college and be closer to her future husband, Charles Gesing. Jane and Chuck were married Oct. 28, 1972 in Reno Nevada and lived in Fortuna for 10 years before moving back to Lakewood in 1980 to be closer to family.

Upon their return, Jane worked as a teacher’s aide at First Covenant Church’s Preschool, BOCES Hewes Center and then as manager of the children’s department and ordering Sunday School material at the Christian Book Cellar. She left work to provide care for her terminally ill mother and when returning to work was a home health aide for Staff Builders and Willcare of Jamestown. Jane then completed her career as head of the “Memory Room’ at Loyalton of Lakewood, a specialized program for Alzheimer and dementia clients.

In earlier years, Jane was a Cub Scout and Tiger Cub leader and active in Lakewood PTO and the sports programs of her sons, including past co-president of the Southwestern Soccer Boosters. In later years, she left work to care for her grandsons after their move to Lakewood. “Nana’s Boys” were special to her, and she spent much time attending their activities to support them.

A confirmand and former member of Zion Covenant Church, Jane currently attended Lakewood United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Benjamin Charles Gesing of Pittsburgh, PA and Joshua James (Amanda) Gesing of Lakewood; and Nana’s boys, her three grandsons Tucker Charles Gesing of Highland Heights, KY, and Jonas Anthony and Calvin James Gesing, both of Lakewood. Also surviving is a sister, Martha (Eddy) David of Sand Springs, OK; two sisters-in-law, Patricia (Timothy) Partello of Gansevort, NY and Karin Ahlgren of Bedford, MA; and many nieces and nephews, including Kristine (Dean) Ekeren of Littleton, CO.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph Gesing on April 3, 2020; and a brother, Gary W. Ahlgren on March 26, 2024.

Jane’s request was that no service or visitation be observed and that memorial donations be made to the Charles Gesing Soccer Fund, c/o the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
