Dale T. Bottomley

Dale T. Bottomley, 91, of 715 Falconer St., Hultquist Place, peacefully passed away Aug. 27, 2024, at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. The son of the late James and Hilda Guest Bottomley, Dale was born April 23, 1933, in their family home.

Following high school graduation from Bemus Point Central School, Dale made his life’s work as a self-employed window washer. Distinctly, he was a fixture of the streets of Jamestown, spending decades hanging out of windows, often with a pipe in his mouth.

Dale married the love of his life, Nancy Murdock, on May 26, 1956. Certainly no small feat, they were married 68 beautiful years and raised five children on their family homestead in Maple Springs.

Supporting his wife and children was Dale’s truest pride point. He cherished family get togethers at their home, where he was consistently seen cooking over the fire pit, whether it was fresh corn, chicken, or even breakfasts for all. Dale valued the outdoors, as he found frequent joy in hunting and fishing. His beloved dogs, too, were a staple to his life’s happiness.

When Dale carved out time for himself, he could be found bowling in various leagues. Moreover, he served as president of the Jamestown Bowling Association. In fact, he achieved a perfect score of 300 in his career. Dale loved to golf; particularly, many of his rounds were at Bemus Point Golf Course, where he had his hole in one.

Dale had a servant’s heart. He was active in multiple volunteer fire departments for 68 years, notably with the Maple Springs Fire Department, where he served as Chief for a time. Additionally, Dale was the past president of the Southwest Firemen’s Association. For fun, he played modified softball for the fire department for many years.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, Dale leaves behind five children: Randy (Debbie) Bottomley of Texas; Rodney (Diane) Bottomley of Bemus Point; Douglas Bottomley of Maple Springs; Dennis Bottomley of Jamestown; and Cindy (Leroy) Mower of Jamestown; grandchildren: Randi Michelle; Thomas and Daniel Bottomley; and Amy, Bryan, Dale, Emily, Stephanie, and Andrew Bottomley; many great grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Kirchhoff.

Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Rebecca Bottomley, two sisters, and a brother.

No visitation or services will be observed. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Springs Fire Department, PO Box 100, Bemus Point, NY 14712.
