Stephen M. Bush

Stephen M. Bush, 68, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, July 15, 2024 at his home in Jamestown.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Iacono Bush whom he married August 9th, 1980.

A Jamestown native, Steve was born January 23, 1956, one of three children of the late C. Ronald and Eleanor Johnson Bush.

Steve earned his Master’s degree at Northern Michigan University and both his undergraduate degree and PhD in music at The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band. He also attended the Tanglewood Music Center on a brass quintet fellowship.

Following his education, Steve served as Principal Tubist with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra before returning to the area to teach music at Southwestern Central School where the high school marching band won several state championships under his direction. In those years he also played in the Fredonia Brass Quintet with whom he toured New Zealand for a performance and recording tour. Leading up to and following retirement, Steve spent many happy years working on the tech crew at the Chautauqua Institution Opera during the summer. He always enjoyed playing in area jazz and Dixieland bands.

Along with his wife Elizabeth, surviving are their two daughters, Ashton (Michael) Hulit and Brittany Bush, both of Boston, Mass.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Bush and sister, Darlene Davis.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 20th in the Lind Funeral Home. The visitation will close with a brief prayer service in the funeral home Saturday.
