Harold R. Almquist

Harold R. Almquist, 98, of Tanglewood Manor, formerly of West Oak Hill Road, died Tuesday April 16, 2024, in UPMC Hamot, Erie.

He was born March 18, 1926, in Jamestown, a son of the late Hugo and Emma Sandquist Almquist.

He was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps in the South Pacific.

Prior to his retirement he was a partner in Modern Business Machines.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW, Jamestown Rifle Club, and Vikings. He was also a long-time member of the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department and a licensed HAM radio operator.

Surviving is his wife of 71 years Caroljean Guignon Almquist, whom he married September 27, 1952; two sons Raymond Paul Almquist and Mark Allen Almquist; grandchildren Joseph Carlton, Justin Roberts, Joy Almquist DeGraffenreid, Kristina Almquist McLoughlin, Issey Almquist, Brandy Almquist, Joshua Almquist, Betheny Almquist and Andrew Almquist and 13 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Pamela Jean Almquist Turner and two brothers Reynold and Quentin Almquist.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Following the service a luncheon will be held at Samuel Derby Post 556, 9 Meadow Lane, Frewsburg.
