Betty J. Archer

Betty J. Archer, 92, of Tanglewood Manor, Jamestown, died peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Heritage Park Skilled Nursing Home in Jamestown, NY.

She was born July 7, 1931, in the Town of Coldspring, a daughter of Paul B. and Odessa Burr Arrance.

She was a 1949 graduate of Randolph Central School and the WCA Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown. In 1966, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Syracuse University after beginning her coursework at St. Bonaventure University. Later she obtained her Certification in Health Education and a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University.

Her employment included time with the Visiting Nurses Association of Jamestown and Randolph Central School, as the high school nurse for several years and the Health Education Teacher for twenty years, until her retirement in 1993. In her retirement years she cared for her mother and brother. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and traveling.

Surviving are three sons, Allen(Melissa) Archer of Lexington, SC, Paul(Cynthia) Archer of Worthington, OH, and Charles(Barbara) Archer of Kennedy, NY; six grandchildren, Katherine(Aaron) Wojtowicz of Lexington, SC, Michael (Suzanne) Archer of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Timothy(Ruth) Archer of GlenMills, PA, Nathaniel(Chloe) Archer of Columbus, OH, Daniel(Whitney) Archer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Curtiss(Joanna) Archer of Kennedy, NY;seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James, two sisters, Dorothea and Donna, a grandson, David Lawrence Archer, a nephew, Thomas Arrance, and her former husband, Willis Archer.

The funeral will be held on Sat. April 27th at 5 PM at the VanRensselaer and Son FuneralHome, 14 Church Street, Randolph. The Rev. Gerald Haglund will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4-5 PM. Burial will be in the Steamburg Cemetery, Town of Coldspring.
