James H. Jones

James (Jim) H. Jones, 89, of Route 394, Randolph, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at UPMC Chautauqua after a brief illness.

He was born on Dec. 9, 1934 in Niobe, New York, the son of Kenneth and Maurine (Guy) Jones.

Jim is survived by a son Michael Jones and wife Pam, daughters Mindy Ebert and husband John, Betty Estes and husband Skip, and Linda Jones-Campbell and husband Scott; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Joy and granddaughters Katie and Lindsey Joy.

Jim was employed by Carlson Dairy Farm from the age of 12 until 16. He hauled milk for Rose Lake Dairies until he was 20. He was in the 174th Mortar Infantry for two years.

He and wife Joy then ran a dairy farm in Randolph for many years while also working at Crescent Tool for 15 years. He then took over Jones Well Drilling following his father’s death. He and Joy ran the business for 50 years.

Jim enjoyed working with draft horses, attending horse pulls, and spending time with Joy in their home in Florida. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim was known for his great sense of humor and giving nature. For the last several years he resided with his grand-daughter Mandy (Jeff) Stoltenberg and their girls, Peyton and Charlotte.

The family will receive relatives and friends on March 24, 2024 from 1-4 PM from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. A brief service will follow at 4 PM and then all are welcome to join the family at the Randolph American Legion Post.

Inurnment will be in the Steamburg Cemetery.
