Monica L. Moden French
Monica L. Moden French
It is with profound sadness that the family of Monica L. Moden French announces her passing, at home, following a prolonged illness.
Mrs. French, of Jamestown, was the widow of James F. French, and is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth French (Bradford Jensen), and granddaughter, Katarina French.
Born in Angermanland, Sweden, in 1944, the daughter of Sven G. and Ada N. Moden, Mrs. French was a 1962 graduate of Jamestown High School. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Jamestown Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Science degree in Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A lifelong educator, Mrs. French began her teaching career as a civilian educator with the United States Army in Darmstadt, Germany, from 1966-1969, during the Vietnam Era. Returning to Jamestown, Mrs. French joined the faculty of Cassadaga Valley Central School as a High School English teacher, a position she held proudly for 30 years.
Mrs. French will be remembered as an intelligent and strong woman and a generous and caringwife, mother and grandmother. A consummate professional, Mrs. French was a dedicated and challenging educator, determined to inspire and instill in her students an appreciation for the English language and literature.
A private family graveside service was held in Lake View Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monica Moden French Educational Fund, care of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, New York 14701.
