Virginia J. Canfield, 69, of Jamestown, and formerly of Mayville, passed away on January 1, 2024, at the Heritage Green Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenhurst, NY. She was born May 12, 1954, in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Virgil and Betty Lake Miller.
She graduated from Mayville Central School in 1972. Her career spanned several roles, including significant tenure at Ethan Allen in Mayville, where she contributed to the manufacturing process. Additionally, she held managerial positions at Datesweiser Furniture in Buffalo, NY. In addition to her work in manufacturing and management, she also served as a waitress at various local restaurants.
Despite facing personal challenges, she exemplified remarkable strength and resilience, persisting through years of adversity with unwavering determination. She imparted the value of a robust work ethic, characterized by self-motivation, reliability, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards.
Virginia is survived by her son, Shawn (Melanie Ricketts) Canfield, grandchildren Benjamin Canfield, and Gabriella Ricketts and daughter, Gretchen (Jimmy) Estes, sisters Lynne (Paul) Kruse, Karen Seekings, Amy Brush, and brother, Donald (Terry) Miller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Michael Miller.
A funeral service will be held at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville, NY, at 10 AM on January 4, 2024, with burial at the Mayville Cemetery. FR Todd Remick will officiate.
