Lorraine K. Hill, 80, of the Chautauqua County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Gastonia, NC, and Amherst, Olean, Frewsburg and Randolph, NY, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at the Chautauqua County Home with her family at her side. She was born Sept. 26, 1943, in Salamanca, NY, the daughter of the late Charles B. and Betty (Krise) Hill.

Lorraine was a 1961 graduate of Randolph Central School. She earned her Associates in Arts and Psychology from Jamestown Community College, Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling from Empire State College, Masters in Professional Studies Community Service and Administration from Alfred University. She continued to learn her entire life earning countless certifications.

Lorraine fiercely loved her family and took being a grandma very seriously traveling the states for sporting events where she was the best cheerleader. She was kind and insanely smart, always teaching even if you didn’t know there was a lesson to learn. Never was there a time when she would make you feel small, she made you feel worth with unlimited potential. She gave her life to her family and her work.

Lorraine was a pioneer in the field of addictions and prevention and well thought of for her expertise in her field. She began her career in 1978 as a psychiatric tech at Jamestown General Hospital, in 1979 she worked as a mental health counselor and then 1981 moved to the field of substance abuse at the Chautauqua County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Clinic. Credentialed in 1982 as an Alcoholism Counselor, she spent the remainder of her life working with addictions as it was her greatest passion. During her time in Chautauqua county, she worked at the council as a counselor then program coordinator. She founded the Chemical Dependency Studies program at JCC and was an Adjunct Professor. She was then program director for Wyoming County treatment program before moving to Cattaraugus county as clinical director, becoming the executive director in 1991 and receiving her credential as a National Certified Addictions Counselor. She has certifications in addictions and prevention. First retired in 2002 and was recognized by NYS Assembly as an outstanding citizen.

Lorraine couldn’t live retired her life’s mission was to help others despite trying a few times. She returned to work in NC at Insights in Recovery in Gastonia, NC, Daymark Recovery Services in Statesville, NC, PATHWAYS and Family Works, Community Choices, The Counseling Center of Iredell, Inc., Cornerstone Christian Center.

She served on the Leadership Advisory Board in Statesville, NC, United Way of the Central Carolinas/Lake Norman, Western New York Consortium of Alcohol and Drug Abuse and served on the NYS Association of Addiction Professionals board. She was a faculty member of NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Academy and had been appointed to NYS counselor credentialing board. She was a trainer for the Institute for Alcohol Services and Trainings through the State University at Buffalo. Member of the Bills Mafia, long time season ticket holder.

She is survived by two daughters; Betty (GW) Satterfield of Virginia, Cherie (Geoff) Rondeau of Amherst and a son, Jamie (Elizabeth) Bentley of Pa, 8 grandchildren, Ashley (Curtis) Punderson, Alexis (Sean) Lipson, Samantha (Daruis) Hossainian, Taylor Bentley, William Lindberg, Charleigh Rondeau, Arianna Lindberg, Quinten Rondeau, 2 greatly anticipated great granddaughters, two sisters, Wendy (Donald) Marsh of Ashville, NC and Jodie (Bob) Buchhardt of Delevan, NY, her namesake Tammi as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Chuck Hill and Sharon Ann Hill-Westfall.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024 from the Grace Episcopal Church, 52 Washington Street, Randolph, NY 14772. Rev. Colleen O’Connor pastor of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate. Luncheon will be served after at Old Tool Tavern.
