Helen M. Schutt Reynolds

SHERMAN- Helen M. Schutt Reynolds, 89, of Sherman, NY, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 2, 2023. She was born September 5, 1934, in the Town of Chautauqua and lived in the area her entire life. She was born to Roy B. Schutt (1980) and Beatrice Ruch (1996), who both preceded her in death.

Helen had attended school at Chautauqua, Sherman and Clymer schools, graduating in 1954.

After her marriage she lived on a farm in Little America, Sherman and then moved to the village of Sherman.

Besides raising her children, after they were in school, she worked as a wall paperer and painter for many years. She also worked for the Census Bureau and retired from the Postal Service in 1996 but continued to do odd jobs until her passing. She was the chairman of the Sherman Food Pantry for many years, was named Person of The Year in Sherman in 2012, was the secretary and treasurer for the Schutt family reunion and was a member of the North Clymer United Methodist Church. Helen had also traveled across the country after her retirement in a semi-truck with her nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Merle F. Reynolds (1992), a daughter, Linda Kay Reynolds (1987), two brothers, Donald Charles Schutt (1939) and James W. Schutt (2003), a sister, Doris Schutt Bloss and a sister-in-law, Carol Watson Schutt.

She is survived by her children; Donald (Paula Lakey) Reynolds of Manhattan, MT, Robert (Ronda Heath) Reynolds of Mayville, NY, Harold Reynolds of Sherman, NY, Mark Reynolds of Sherman, NY, Dawn (Harry) Gonzalez of Mayville, NY, and Martha (Clifford) Warner of Sherman, NY, and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren step-greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews, her brothers and sisters; William (Lois Loomis) Schutt of Clymer, NY, John (Norma Carahan) Schutt of Sugar Grove, PA, and Gordon Schutt of Benson AZ.

The funeral will be held at Noon on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St). The Rev. Kevin Costner and Rev. Paul Sears will officiate. Burial will be in the Sherman Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 PM at the funeral home on Sunday, December 10, 2023, and for one hour before the service on Monday (11 AM to Noon), at the funeral home. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the Mayville American Legion.
