Miriam Albizu Rodriguez

Miriam Albizu Rodriguez, 89, of Jamestown, NY, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Hamot Medical Center surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Born on May 6, 1934, in Bo. Guayavel, a neighborhood within Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, was the daughter of the late Trinidad Perez Santiago and Jose Ramon Albizu.

Miriam relocated to Jamestown from Puerto Rico after marrying Nicholas Rodriguez on Oct. 27, 1956. Together they built a life and raised their five children. Miriam’s culinary talents, especially her Spanish rice, were adored by her family and guests. She was also known for her love of baking and gardening, spending countless hours in her solarium nurturing her plants.

A dedicated member of St John’s Altar & Rosary Society, Miriam’s memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Nicholas (Julie) Rodriguez Jr., Evelyn (Myles) Lyons Jr., Arlene (Albert) Kennedy, Edwin (partner Carolina Delahoy) Rodriguez Sr., and Doris (Ronald) Pappalardo, all of Jamestown. Grandchildren include Nichole (Jason) Scott, Dominick (Sarah) Rodriguez, Diane (Robert) Hedstrom of Sweden, Nicholas and Myles Lyons, III, Jennifer (Quinton) Clark, Sr., Lisa Kennedy, Edwin Rodriguez Jr., and Joshua and John Schauman. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Miriam is survived by her half-sister Evelyn Ojeda of New York City, and several cousins in Puerto Rico.

Miriam is preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Rodriguez, Sr., her stepmother Victoria Albizu, and her parents Trinidad and Jose Ramon Albizu.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023 at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home in Jamestown.

The funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023 10 AM at Saint John’s Church, 270 Newton Ave. in Jamestown.

Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, the Ronald McDonald House connected to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, Saint Jude Hospital, or St. John’s Saint Vincent DePaul Society.
