Ross Field of Sherman, NY passed away on October 10, 2023 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, PA after a brief illness.
He was born in East Randolph, NY on June 30, 1925 to Arthur H. Field and Caroline Joanne Ross Field. Ross attended school in Randolph until his family moved to Sherman, NY when he was in his teens. He then attended Sherman Central School where he met his future wife, Nila Jean Cady.
They were married 38 years before she passed away.
As a young family man, Ross owned a dairy farm. At some point he decided there might be an easier way to support his family. Hence, he worked for The Electric Materials Company in North East, PA from 1950 until he retired in 1986. He then worked parttime at Peak’n’Peek Resort in Clymer, NY from October 1986 to November 2002. He really enjoyed the free skiing and golfing that job provided!
While his children were growing up he helped start a Little League program in Sherman and helped with coaching for many years. Later, he was one of the original members of the Sherman Golf League. He enjoyed bowling, as well as skiing, golfing and playing horseshoes. Hebowled a 300 game at the age of 72 and had a hole-in-one at the age of 76!
Ross is survived by his companion of 37 years, Janet Loomis, his sons Mike(Barb) and Steve of Sherman and his daughter, Dianne(Tom) Sasso of Farr West, Utah. He is further survived by grandson Greg(Dawn) Field of Oklahoma, and granddaughters Joanne(Murray Latson) Billmire of Utah and Michelle(Cory)Emory of Sherman. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren, Tiara, Ryan (Samantha), Christopher(Victoria), Treasure, Zoe, Aiden, and Madison and 2 great great grandsons, Asher and Hudson. He also leaves behind step-children Steve (Cheralee) Rater of Georgia, Tracy (John) Dixon of Oneida, NY and Laura (Steve) Wilson of Mayville and also by step grandchilden, Jordan, Taylor, Ryan, Rachel, Trevor, Catelinn, Kelly and Sean.
In addition to his parents, Ross was predeceased by his sons Jeffery and Johnny and by his siblings Joan Fleckenstein, Amy Meeder, William(Bud) Field and Margaret Raven.
Per Ross’s wish there will be no service. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetary.
