Patricia Ann Smith (Butterfield) of Leesburg Florida, formerly Cherry Creek, NY passed away peacefully on July 26, 2023. Patricia was born in Wayland NY on September 19, 1931 to Orianna and Claude Butterfield.
Patricia is survived by her sons Martin (Kathryn) Smith, and Thomas (Pam) Smith, beloved daughter in laws Mary Smith, and Eileen Smith, and brother Philp Butterfield.
Grandma Pat as she was known as since the birth of her first grandchild in 1978, spent many years spreading love, joy, sarcasm, and sass to any and all around her. Patricia at the time of her death was a grandma to 10 (Braden, Barry, Emily, Nate (Weld), Jessica, Scott, Ronald, Brian, Nichole and Daniel Smith) and 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Orianna and Claude Butterfield, brothers Thomas and Frederick Butterfield, and her son James Smith.
Patricia graduated nursing school in 1951 from St. James School in Hornell, NY and proceeded to have a long and satisfying nursing career at Roy-Hart Central Schools, Gowanda Psychiatric Center until its closure and the former WCA Hospital-Mental Health Inpatient Unit where she retired in 2005. After retirement, Pat enjoyed summering in Westfield on Lake Erie, and snow birding in Leesburg Florida where she became an active member of the Sand-Piper Community.
Grandma Pat was known for orchestrating the company NCAA basketball pools, exploring new hobbies including gardening, piano, camping, cross-stitch, coin and stamp collecting, and painting. Patricia enjoyed spending time with her family at Allegany State Park with her son’s, their wives and her grandchildren throughout the 80’s and 90’s. She was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan, and could be found loudly cheering for the Bills each Sunday. She was an avid reader, and spent countless hours reading Louis La’Mour novels, and she enjoyed shopping trips, and dinners out with friends and family. Patricia spent many nights watching her son’s play basketball, and baseball growing up, and proudly discussing their accomplishments, she picked right up with her grandchildren when they started playing sports, and could always be found taking pictures during games. Pat loved a good scoreboard shot. Grandma Pat enjoyed traveling, and always loved spending the Christmas season with her family. She always made Amish cookies, and bought more gifts than Santa.
