Ronald Louis Coan, 82, of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023. He was born in Jamestown, NY, to the late David H. and Mable A. Shelters Coan.
Ron attended Jamestown High School. After school he served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army, Armored Division. Ron was a machinist by trade. He retired from Cummins Engine plant after 20-plus years. In 2005, he and his wife, Jackie, moved to Matthews, NC.
Ron was a fun, outgoing guy with a kind heart; a real gentle giant. He loved making children smile and was always up for a good laugh. His passion was his beloved family, riding his Harley, and classic cars. Ron loved the outdoors, playing cards, and watching movies, especially Westerns. Coffee at Starbucks with "The Council" was an important daily routine. Strangers quickly became friends with "the Harley Guy." He was also a member of the HOGS -- Independence Harley Davidson Chapter.
Ron was preceded in passing by his parents David and Mable Coan and his brother Roger Coan. He leaves behind his loving wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Minchener Coan; daughter Rochelle (Shane) Perry of Aiken, SC; son Matthew Coan of Jamestown, NY; grandchildren Sierra and Ty Perry of Aiken, SC; and Zeb, Gisele and Dresden Coan of Jamestown, NY. Also left to carry on Ron's memory are his sisters Jody Triscari, Tammy (Tony) Melice, sister-in-law Kerry Coan, all of Jamestown, NY; many nieces and nephews; and Kelsey (Malti-poo), who loved her "daddy".
Services for Ron will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at Heritage Funeral Home -- Indian Trail. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM, with a Celebration of Life Service at 2 PM. Services will also be held in Jamestown, NY, on Sept. 9th, from 10 AM-12 PM, at Lind Funeral Home, 805 W 3rd St, Jamestown, NY 14701.
