Alice M. Chambers

Alice M. Chambers, 94, of Jamestown and formerly of Mina, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Jamestown, NY.

She was born January 22, 1929, in Lowville, Pa., the daughter of the late Orlando L. Trask Sr. and Henrietta Curtis Trask.

Alice had been a homemaker, spending much of her time raising her five children. She was a member of the Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647. She enjoyed cooking, baking, tending her vegetable gardens, canning, knitting, going to the casino, and golfing. She especially loved holidays and holiday meals with family.

She is survived by three sons: Joseph (Donna) Chambers of Rochester, N.Y., James (Linda) Chambers Jr of Sherman, N.Y., and Jeffrey (Linda) Chambers of Jumping Branch, W.V., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Lutheran Home for their wonderful care over the last few years.

Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Duryee, her second husband, James Chambers Sr., two daughters: Georgianna Hoesel and Carol Howard, and one grandson, Ryan Howard.

The funeral will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St.). The Rev. Laura Csellak will officiate. Burial will be in the Mina Cemetery. Alice’s grandchildren will serve as the pallbearers. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service (10 a.m. to 12 noon) at the funeral home.
