Valerie Yvonne Marsh

Valerie Yvonne Marsh was born to Floyd E. and Doris (Cooper) Marsh in Jamestown, New York on December 8, 1943. She spent her younger years in Lakewood, New York. She passed peacefully at home in San Jose, California on April 8, 2023.

She was known for her faith. This brought countless compassionate acts that helped her family, wife, friends, co-workers, and students at work. She sacrificed for the good of others.

In her younger years, Val worked at their family church and the local post office to help financially support the family and herself. She graduated from Southwestern Central High School in June 1962. She went on to Jamestown Community College to earn her associate degree. In 1965 she went to Brigham Young University in Utah to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She went back to Panama, New York to teach elementary school.

In September of 1969, Valerie came west. She came to various cities and settled in San Jose, California where she taught for 30 years at Agnews Development Center. While teaching she touched the hearts and souls of her students and parents. She fervently supported teachers’ rights through her union work.

On June 26 of 1983, she married Mary Ann Alexander amongst the Redwood trees. Over the 40 years of marriage, they traveled to India, England, Scotland, and Alaska with many trips to Monetary Bay, California.

She was dearly loved by her family, wife, friends, co-workers, students, and caregivers.

Valerie will live in the hearts of those who loved her forever.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents and survived by Mary Ann Alexander and siblings: Gail Marsh (Julia) of Durham, NC, Arlene (Marsh) Christopherson (late Donald), and Brian Marsh (Susan) all of Jamestown, NY.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Her ashes will be at the Los Gatos Memorial Park.
