Thomas L. Achatz, 75, of Sawmill Run Road, Town of South Valley, formerly of Buffalo, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (March 26, 2023) in South Valley as the result of an ATV accident and his family at his side.
Mr. Achatz was born August 17, 1947 in Buffalo, the son of the late Michael Wolfgang Achatz and Hazel (Nee’ Schwender) Achatz.
Tom was a graduate of Bishop Turner High School class of 1967, and Erie County Community College. Semi-tractor/ trailer driver, he retired from Maverick Trucking in Arkansas and Buffalo China.
He was an avid hunter, loved his springer spaniels, spending time with his family and friends, boating and woodworking. He was a member of the Samuel L. Derby American Legion Post 556 (Sons) in Frewsburg and was a Communicant of the Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his companion and friend of 30 years, Christine S. (Seager) Yeager of Onoville, formerly of Olean, two children, Thomas R. Achatz of Oakland, CA. and Kyle Achatz of Buffalo, two step-children; Rachel Wright and Deena Watts, both of PA., 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and a brother Michael Achatz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Hazel and a brother, Richard Achatz.
As per Tom’s wishes, there will be no visitation held. A private celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph, New York 14772.
