On the evening of March 27, 2023, Jeanne Jenkins Green, age 93, slipped peacefully and serenely into the arms of Jesus.
Jeanne was born on April 6, 1929, the youngest of nine children born to the late John and Clara Keefe of Lakewood, New York.
Living almost her entire life in Lakewood, Jeanne started working at Jenkins Dairy as a teenager. There, she captured the heart of the young Jim Jenkins, married him, and remained a key part of the dairy until its closing.
Jeanne found her real niche in life at The Green Farm Tea Room, where she helped countless brides fill out their registries and many families decorate their homes. If you needed that very special gift for someone – Jeanne was the one to go see! The other thing she found at The Green Farm was her second husband, Ned Green. Having both lost their spouses; they found great joy and happiness together as a couple. After The Green Farm closed its doors, Jeanne continued in her role as a "gift expert" well into her eighties until she finally decided to really retire!
Tenderhearted and kind, Jeanne always left people feeling cared for. In spite of outliving two husbands and a son, having to deal with hips and shoulders that refused to work, and in the end, being afflicted with Parkinson 's disease, her outlook on life was always upbeat, positive, and encouraging. She loved playing cards and was a brilliant bridge player. One of the things she enjoyed most, though, was playing Hand and Foot with three generations of her family! But cards were not the only thing she did well! She was an avid reader, an accomplished cook, skilled flower arranger, and a respectable golfer and bowler! She was a life-long member of St. Luke Episcopal Church in Jamestown, New York, where she sang in the choir and loved to listen to the magnificent organ music. She was an honorary member of the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club, a life member of the Lakewood Women's Club, a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and member of the Jamestown Garden Club. In the late 2017, as her health and mobility began to decline, Jeanne moved to Slidell, Louisiana to be with her son, Jay, and his family. She ended up residing in Summerfield Assisted Living, where she made wonderful new friends and where she ultimately took her last breath.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings: John Keefe, Virginia Fischer, Don Keefe, Ernie Keefe, Doris Rendell, Carol Larson,Robert Keefe, and James Keefe; two husbands, James W. "Jim" Jenkins and Edward J. "Ned" Green; and her youngest son, Jon R. "Rick" Jenkins.
She is survived by her son, James L. "Jay" Jenkins, his wife, Cindy, along with their three daughters and their children: Sara and John Marble of Slidell, LA and children, Jackson, Logan, and Hudson; Stacey and Jonathan Hunt of Slidell, LA and children, Ethan, Zachary, and Noah; and Stephanie and Robert Howell of South Jordan, Utah and children, Riley, Luke, Zeke, Emi, and Kate. Her daughter, Julianne J. "Julie" Peterson, her husband, Charlie, along with their three sons and their children: Chad and Meghan Peterson of Greenville, South Caroline and children, Sadie and Elouise; Mitchell and Stephanie Peterson of Lexington, SC and children, Julianne and Adelynn; Chase and Amy Peterson of Gilford, New Hampshire and children, Olivia and Alexandra. Her daughter-in-law, Pam Anderson Jenkins (Rick, deceased) of Clymer, NY and her children, Michael Taylor of New York, NY and Wendy and Scott Dobson of Clymer, NY; and her grandchildren, Jordan, Chelsey, and Hannah.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jeanne will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Audubon Funeral Home located at 61101 Hwy 11 in Slidell, LA. A Celebration of Life Reception will take place after the service in the community room of Audubon Funeral Home and conclude at 2:30 p.m.
A second Celebration of Life service will be held in Lakewood, New York at a time to be determined in the future.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke Episcopal Church located at 410 N Main St, Jamestown, NY 14701.
