CHAUTAUQUA- James Bryan McChesney, 71, of Silver Creek and formerly of Chautauqua, went to be home with Jesus, unexpectedly on Monday April 3, 2023.
He was born August 8, 1951, in Jamestown, NY the son of the late Robert and Marion Hoyt McChesney.
He was a 1969 graduate of Chautauqua Central School. He also earned his Associate in Business degree from the University of Buffalo. James proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973. He had worked as an insurance salesman and was a partial owner of Tremaine Agency in Fredonia, NY and Mayville Realty in Mayville. James had also been a dairy farmer and most recently was a truck driver for Schuster Trucking in Le Mars, IA.
James attended Harvest Chapel Church in Fredonia. He enjoyed time in the woods at the family Ponderosa in Stedman, NY, being on Chautauqua Lake, farming with his older brother Steve, hunting, fishing and Nascar Racing. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his three children; Gordon (Annette) McChesney of Cassadaga, NY, Nicki (Tim) Nearhoof of Forestville, NY, and Kristin (Darrin Schauer) McChesney of Silver Creek, NY, nine grandchildren; Grayson, Abigail, James, Ali, Ava, Declan, Charleigh, Oliver, and Patrick. Four siblings; Marcia Wall of Falconer, NY, Sabrina Thorp of Lakewood, NY, Kevin McChesney of Stedman, NY, and Kate McChesney of Sherman, NY, numerous nieces and nephews, one uncle; Daniel (Mary) Hoyt of Chautauqua, NY, two sister-in laws; Sally McChesney of Jamestown, NY and Robin McChesney of Ashville,NY and his former wife; Lynette Drummond of Silver Creek, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Gordon, Stephen, and Gary McChesney and one nephew; Joshua McChesney.
The funeral will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). The Rev Jim LaBarr will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the funeral home.
