Joanne M. Nelson

She was born July 26, 1930 in Escanaba, Michigan, the daughter of the late Archie and Edith Olsen Shattuck.

In earlier years Joanne was employed by Gowanda State Hospital, the Country Kitchen in Frewsburg, Herbert Shoes and King Manor in Jamestown. Prior to retirement she was employed by Anderson Cleaners.

Joanne was a member of the former Stillwater United Methodist Church and served on the board of trustees, and Samuel Derby Post 556 American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Swinging Senior Club and enjoyed horseback riding, painting, ceramics, gardening, word search books and entertaining.

Surviving are two sons: Donald (Mary Ann) Dawson of Stow, Ohio, Randall (Jerri) Dawson of Ashville, NY; a daughter Wendy (David) Miller of Holt, Michigan; two step children: Cheryl (David) Miller, Laurie Walker; five grandchildren: Stacey (Eric) Rozmin, Kevin Dawson, Christopher (Shannon Fleming) Dawson, Seth (Leanne) Ojala, Carly (Dan) Chmiel; six step grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Abigail Ojala, Sarah and Christopher Rozmin, Damien and Elania Dawson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sherwood Nelson whom she married March 25, 1978, who died August 12, 2011; a great granddaughter Stacia Rozmin, a step son Terry Nelson; a half- brother Floyd Shattuck and a half-sister Mildred Beebe.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the Falconer Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Rev. Gordon Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.
