Dale L. Abbey

He was born January 14, 1945, in Westfield, NY the son of the late Gerry and Jeanne Isham Abbey.

In 1966 Dale began a forty-year career working for the Town of Westfield Highway Department, retiring in 2006. From 2000 to 2006 he was the acting Town Highway Department Supervisor. For many years Dale also dug graves for several local cemeteries.

He was a member of the Westfield American Legion Post 327, the Westfield VFW Post 6764, and the Westfield Moose Lodge 118.

Dale enjoyed being a backyard mechanic that could make anything mechanical run. He golfed for many years- he always said he started too late in life to be good at it, but sure enjoyed the game. Dale was also fond of racing in his earlier days, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his granddaughter.

He is survived by his granddaughter; Brittany Lucas (Steven Trippy) of Westfield, NY, a grandson; Michael Abbey, five siblings; Barbara Abbey of Westfield, NY, George (Carol) Abbey of Ripley, NY, Louanne (Dan) Snow of Westfield, NY, Candace (Gary) Cook of Brunswick, OH, and Claude (Pauletta) Abbey of Westfield, NY, and numerous nieces andnephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Sally Toy Abbey, and a son; Richard Abbey.

At Dale’s request, there will be no public services observed. A private memorial service and graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
