Frances May Derby passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Absolut Care Nursing Facility, Westfield, N.Y.
Frances was born on November 28, 1935 to Olin Glendenning and Helen Jackman Glendenning at home in Steamburg, N.Y.
After graduating from Randolph Central School, she worked at Ben Franklin Five and Dime in Randolph throughout her twenties. While at work there she met Airman Charles Derby and they married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph on June 16, 1962. They were stationed in Merced, California and became parents of two daughters. Upon retirement from the Air Force they moved back to N.Y. and settled in Watts Flatts. Years later they moved to Lakewood, N.Y.
Frances, a homemaker for most of her life started a cleaning business after her children were grown. She also worked for Belinger Hall in Chautauqua Institution for several years. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood, where she taught Catechism for more than 40 years. She was deeply devoted to her faith and was named teacher of the year several times. She will be remembered by friends and family as a warm, patient and always kind Christian lady.
A loving mother, she was also a devoted grandmother of 5. She is survived by daughters: Tracie Stack of Orlando, FL and Theresa (Phillip) Klinginsmith of Mayville, NY; four grandchildren: Collin Stack and Tabatha (Nathan) Stought of Orlando, FL, Ryan Klinginsmith of Mayville and Kody Klinginsmith of Lakewood; five great-grandchildren: Lux Cordosi, Livia VanArsdale, Brixley VanArsdale of Sugar Grove, PA, Kye and Kinley Klinginsmith of Ashville, N.Y.
In addition to her parents and her husband: Charles Derby, she is preceded in death by her brother; Jim Glendenning formerly of Steamburg, N.Y. and her grandson Craig Klinginsmith formerly of Mayville, N.Y.
