Arthur Frank “Art” Swanson
Arthur Frank “Art” Swanson, 86, formerly of 118 Jamestown Road, East Randolph, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at UPMC-Chautauqua Hospital in Jamestown. He was born September 16, 1936 in Jamestown, the son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Scofield) Swanson.
Art was a graduate of Cassadaga High School, and served with New York State National Guard.
He retired in 2001 as a Store Manager for Tops Markets (Quality Markets) after 40 years of service. During his career, he was manager at the Randolph Store for many years, in addition to working other locations as well.
He was a member of the East Randolph United Methodist Church, where served as a trustee and usher. He was also a Boy Scout Leader and Little League Baseball coach. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Jean (Johnson) Swanson, whom he married on September 2, 1961 in the Epworth United Methodist Church in Jamestown, two daughters, Michelle (Carl) Ginter of Wappinger Falls, NY, Laurie (Ralph) Maslach of Derby, NY, two sons, Duane (Kim) Swanson of Rochester, NY and Darryl (Annie) Swanson of North Collins, 9 grandchildren, Megan, Lucas, Christopher, Jacob, Carlene, Jenna, Ella, Maddison and Hallee, and a great-grandson, Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy and a sister, Karen Swanson.
As per his wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private services will be held Monday January 16, 2023 from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph.
The Rev. Lee O’Brien will officiate. Burial will follow in the East Randolph Cemetery.
