Alice Lorraine Marsh

Alice Lorraine Marsh was born July 23, 1942 in Buffalo, N.Y. She transitioned into eternal life at her home on Oct. 7, 2022.

Alice attended Panama Central School and lived and worked in Chautauqua County, N.Y., for most of her life.

The many different jobs Alice held before she fully retired at the age of 79 all had one thing in common, she was helping and connecting with people. Whether she was working as a carpenter for Bill Flanders & Sons, a dietary aide at Heritage Green Nursing Home, spending time with her family, or helping in the church nursery, her mission was to make sure that each person she interacted with felt cared for and important.

Alice was an independent and strong-willed woman who had many interests and hobbies that kept her very active. She enjoyed many things including, keeping her flowerbeds filled with bright flowers, crocheting blankets and other items for family and friends, walking with her friends, finding a good deal at a yard sale, and spending time with her family. In 1990, she graduated from Mom to Grandma and eventually to GiGi (great-grandma). She could often be found playing with or entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were the true loves of her life. Alice will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Alice is survived by her children: Rex (Jody) Marsh of Panama, N.Y., Michael (Sandra) Marsh of Panama, N.Y., and Starlene Reed (Thomas Pillsbury) of Carlisle, Pa.; her grandchildren Kayla (Matthew) Sheaffer of Carlisle, Pa., Jacob Marsh of Buffalo, N.Y., Zachary Marsh of Reading, Ohio, Andy Marsh of Fredericksburg, Va., Tyler Marsh of Brockport, N.Y., and Brianna (Ryan) Ford of Youngsville, Pa.; her great-grandchildren: Nolan, Nora and Miles Sheaffer; her siblings: Roger Brightman of Panama, N.Y., and Bruce (Linda) Brightman of Jamestown, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, step siblings, and their families.

Alice was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Wayland (Bill) Simmes; her father, Charles Brightman; her husband of 52 years, Sherwood Marsh; her granddaughter, Frany Reed; and her siblings: Robert Brightman and Rodney (Buck) Brightman.

Memorial services will be held at the Panama United Methodist Church in Pa-nama, NY on Nov. 6th, 2022, at 1 p.m. The family invites friends and family to join them in a light meal following the services.
