Sally M. Wissman
Sally M. Wissman, 80, of Gerry, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2022) in her home.
A lifelong area resident, she was born March 2, 1942, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Clarence E. “Casey” and May Keopke Yagger.
She was a 1959 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School, and was employed by the CVCS school district as a teacher’s aide for 36 years, retiring in 2005.
Sally was a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church and attended Park United Methodist Church in Sinclairville.
Surviving are two sons: Timothy (Leigh) Wissman and Todd (Laurie) Wissman, all of Gerry; a daughter, Cynthia Wissman (Josh Davis) of Mongolia; four grandchildren: Mike Wissman (Samantha Reale), Alex (Katie) Wissman, Katelyn (Matt) Waples and Thomas (Courtney) Wissman; a brother, David (Gloria) Yagger of Sinclairville; and two sisters: Bethany DeBeau of Placentia, Calif., and Linda (Dennis) Edwards of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, May Yagger (Jan. 1, 1959); her father, Casey Yagger (Feb.. 16, 1972); her husband of 59 years, Rexford J. “Rex” Wissman (Nov. 25, 2020) and her step-mother, Bertha L. Yagger (Aug. 29, 2003).
Sally loved sports and followed her children and grandchildren rarely missing a game. You would often hear her ringing her “cow bell” during games to encourage her team.
She enjoyed reading and kept a journal recording her thoughts, or just things that happened during the day, and could always be seen walking with her beloved dogs: Maggie and Woody.
Sally enjoyed attending dinners and other events with her classmates, who were known as the ’59ers. She also enjoyed taking bus trips with Chautauqua Senior Citizens’.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14, 2022) in the Falconer Funeral Home.
Sally’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 15, 2022) in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Pascoe pastor of Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery.
Memorials may be donated to the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, Chautauqua County Humane Society or Park United Methodist Church, Sinclairville.
