Lois I. “Hammond” Swanson
Lois I. “Hammond” Swanson, 88, of Jamestown passed away Sunday (Sept. 4, 2022) in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1934, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Bert and Ruth Hollister Saxton.
Lois was employed for many years as a cashier at Quality Markets in Frewsburg and Falconer, where she enjoyed meeting people and making new friends.
When she wasn’t working, she loved reading mystery novels, listening to country music, and watching old western movies. One of her favorite pastimes was spending summers at Holmstead Park in Frewsburg. There she enjoyed sitting by the campfire and sharing potluck suppers with friends and family, often entertaining them with her sense of humor and quick wit.
Lois was a former member of the Falconer Fire Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are her four daughters: Deborah Tamilin of California, Kathy (Larry) Trask of Falconer, Marlene (Bruce) Macey of Falconer, and Vicky (Doug) Burdick of Jamestown; a son, Ronald (Yvonne) Hammond of Georgia; two step-sons: Michael (Sandy) Swanson of Tennessee and Todd Swanson of Falconer; her sister: Janice Gardner of Pennsylvania; 19 grandchildren: Andrew Tamilin, Emily Tamilin, Timothy Trask, Jennifer Smith, Wayne Trask, Chelsea Constantino, Evan Walker, Tyler Walker, Nick Walker, Jason Dustin, Payton Dustin, Tammy McGonigle, Julie Pawlak, Amy Sozsozorek, Daniel Matteson, Tyler Hammond, Tyler Swanson, Mike Swanson, Katie Swanson; and 20 great-grandchildren. Her great-grandchild Klayton Campbell held a special place in her heart as they spent a lot of time together while he was growing up.
Besides her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her two husbands: Wayne Hammond and Oscar Swanson; three sisters: Rosie Manning, Doris May, and infant, Caroline Saxton; one brother: James Saxton; three grandchildren: Michael Bennett, Ryan Hammond and Michelle Matteson.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, (Sept. 16, 2022) in the Falconer Funeral Home. Pastor Jennifer Delahoy will officiate.
Friends will be received by the family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, (September 15, 2022) in the funeral home.
