John S. Hershberger
LEON — John S. Hershberger, 84, of 6143 Cooper Road, Conewango Valley, Town of Leon, passed away at 2:50 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at home after an extended illness with his family at his side .
He was born March 8, 1938, in Holmes County, Ohio, the son of late Sam J. and Mary A. (Yoder) Hershberger.
He was a member of the Old Order of the Amish in Conewango Valley (Leon) and owned and operated a dairy farm.
He is survived by two sons: Neil (Verna) Hershberger of Hillsboro, Ky., and Raymond (Miriam) Hershberger of Woodhull, N.Y.’ seven daughters: Naomi (Melvin) Miller of Cashton, Wis., Lydiann (Emmanuel) Miller of Angelica, N.Y., Ella (Levi) Miller of Annville, Ky., Katie (Emmanuel) Detweiler of Conewango Valley, Ada (Levi) Miller of Woodhull, Mary (Noah) Raber of Randolph, and Anna (Aaron) Miller of Farewell, Mich.; 90 grandchildren, 168 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Anna) Hershberger of Cashton, Wisc.; and a sister, Mary (Levi) Mast of Cashton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary, his wife, Sarah C. Kauffman Hershberger, whom he married on Oct. 13, 1960, and who preceded him on Jan. 18, 2022; two brothers: Robert and Adam Hershberger; and two sisters: Katie Hostetler and Lydiann Kauffman.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday and Sunday at the family home, 6143 Cooper Road, Leon. Funeral services will be were held in the home at 9 a.m. (Aug. 29, 2022) Bishop John Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the West Amish Cemetery, Young’s Road, Town of Leon.
