James Arthur Steber

James Arthur Steber, 67, P.O. Box 36, Bemus Point, N.Y., died on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at UPMC Hamot, following a brief illness.

He was born, Feb. 23, 1955, in Titusville, Pa., the son of the late Rudolph C. and Alice Brady Steber.

Jim had lived in Titusville during his youth and then Erie, Pa., until he retired to Bemus Point in 2016.

A graduate of Cathedral Prep High School, he received his bachelor and masters degrees in accounting from Gannon University, Erie, Pa.

He had a career in banking that spanned over 25 years. He left PNC Bank as vice president of trust and estate administration in 2005 to serve at Erie Homes for Children and Adults, Inc, in a newly created position of director of planned giving and community support. Active in the community in Erie, Pa., he was a member of the Estate Planning Council of Erie, a board member of the Visiting Nurses Association of Erie County, member of Hamot Health Foundation Board of Corporators and a former president and board member of EHCA. He was also affiliated with the local Catholic parishes in each community in which he resided.

During his retirement years in Bemus Point, he served on multiple community boards, including planning and zoning boards for Bemus and Ellery Twp, Bemus Point Historical Society and the Bemus Point Library. Jim’s second home was the Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as treasurer and as a fire police, and the firemen were his extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Darcy; his brother, John Steber (Jane) of Cary, N.C.; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Debbie (Dave)d Hansen of Lakewood, N.Y., and David (Sarah) Heist of Titusville, Pa.; multiple nieces and nephews; and many special friends. He was also very close to his Brady family cousins.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, Titusvillle, Pa.

At Jim’s request no calling hours will be observed. Burial will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Titusville, Pa., with immediate family attending. Jim requests that friends say a prayer for his soul and remember their fondest memory and lock it in their hearts forever.
