Eleanor Catherine Bedient

Eleanor Catherine Bedient, 94, of Gerry, found peace Friday (July 1, 2022) in her home.

She married Richard H. Bedient on Sept. 25, 1948, in the Gerry Free Methodist Church. She lived on the Gerry Levant Road for over 70 years, initially in a home she and her husband built and then next door in an apartment in the Bedient Homestead.

She was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harry and Jessiebelle Howig Lisi.

Eleanor grew up in Stockton and was a 1944 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School and graduated from Roberts Beauty School as a licensed cosmetologist in 1947, finding employment at Dunkirk Beauty Salon and ElvaLouise Beauty Salon in Jamestown. She served as the town of Gerry tax collector from 1968-79 and was a cafeteria aide at the former Gerry Elementary School. From 1968-79. Eleanor and her husband, Richard owned and operated Batt Appliance Store. She had been employed by Heritage Village Nursing Home and Retirement Home from 1980 until her retirement in 1995.

Eleanor attended Gerry Free Methodist Church, was a member of the Gerry Rodeo Senior Citizens, and participated in planning the CVCS class of 1944 reunions.

She traveled with her husband to Puerto Rico, London, Jamaica, Bermuda, and took a South American cruise. Eleanor was a member of the Gerry Travel Club, a group of seven Gerry couples, who visited many Caribbean destinations. Recreationally, she camped with her young family and friends at Blue Water Beach and she enjoyed the challenge of the daily word jumbles and crypto quips.

Surviving are two sons: Jay Gregory Bedient and his wife, Stephanie of Kingston, N.Y., and Douglas Wayne Bedient and his wife, Laurie of Gerry; nieces: April (Hal) Folckemer, Deborah Giambra, Cheryl Lord, Gayle (Ken) Lyon, Karyn (Johnny) Okerlund, Marcia (Tom) Taylor; nephews: Jeffrey (Diane) McKissick, Craig (Pam) McKissick, Mark McKissick; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, who died April 29, 1979; a brother ,Andrew Lisi; and a sister, Patricia Begley.

The funeral will be at noon on Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery immediately following the service.

Friends will be received by the family from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday in the funeral home.
