Concetta “Connie” L. Auria

Concetta “Connie” L. Auria, 90, beloved wife of James S. Auria of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

She was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Frank and Christina (Vella) Mitchell.

Connie and Jim were childhood sweethearts since the 9th grade at Jefferson Junior High School. They married while Jim was serving in the U.S. Army prior to his deployment to Korea in 1953.

Following high school, Connie worked at Harvey Carey Drug Store, Murphy’s Five and Dime, Monitor Furniture Factory and lastly Truck-Lite, from where she retired in1999 after 20 years of service.

Connie was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and the co-president with her husband Jim, of the Homeschool Association at the St. James School.

She attended a once-a-month card club consisting of old school pals and was secretary of “The Lost Neighborhood.” Her life-long legacy was caring for the stray neighborhood cats.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, James S. Auria, whom she married on Sept. 19, 1953 in St. James Church.

They have one son, Frank (Donna) Auria of Rochester, N.Y.; three daughters: Louise (Richard) Perry and Jane (Robert) Von Volen, both of Jamestown and Kathleen (Joseph) Neid of Salt Lake City, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and their beloved pet cats: Jimmy and Connie.

In addition to her parents, Connie was pre-ceded in death by her brothers: Domenic Centi, Charles Centi, Salvatore Centi, Sabbatino Centi, Joseph Centi, James Mitchell, George Mitchell and an infant brother, Joseph Mitchell; her twin sister, Mary Letizo and sister, Louise Centi (age 5).

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 7 at St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Paul Cygan, parochial vicar of St. James Catholic Church will officiate. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to the start of Mass at St. James Church. The funeral mass will be live streamed on the Bracken Funeral Home Facebook Page at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
