Dorothy R. McCarthy

In February of 1956 she married Richard H. “Mac” McCarthy. They raised five children and shared more than 40 years together.

In recent years Dottie had run her own custom sewing and alterations business, doing quality work for customers who also became friends. She also loved to sew for her children and grandchildren. She retired in 1994 from Bounty Group, Inc. of Jamestown and had previously worked for the former Sylvania Electric Products of Warren and J.C. Penney Co. of Warren.

A 1947 graduate of Warren High School, she enoyed weekly luncheon get togethers with classmates over the past several years. Dottie also enjoyed numerous friendships forged through her love of the arts and enjoyment of local theater, Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, the book club through Warren Public Library, Warren Garden Club where she served as both president and treasurer, and her volunteer efforts with the Warren County Historical Society and numerous other nonprofit organizations and foundations in Warren.

While Dottie and Mac were raising their family in Jamestown, she was involved in many organizations including Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, the Southwestern Central School Parent Teacher Organization, and the Jamestown Y.W.C.A where she was a member of the board of directors and held the office of secretary.

Surviving are four daughters: Colleen McCarthy-Nicastro of Jamestown, Sheila (Dennis) Webster of Jamestown, Ann (Stephen) Gurin of Southwest Harbor, ME, and Molly (Paul) Irwin of Lakewood, OH, and a daughter-in-law, Pam McCarthy of Warren. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: David Nicastro, Emily Nicastro, Hannah Webster, Claire Webster, William Gurin, Andrew Gurin, Katherine Gurin, Helen Irwin, Joan Irwin, and Martin Irwin, and nieces, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her son Sean R. McCarthy, parents, a brother Michael V. Giancotti, a sister Patricia Giancotti, and son-in-law Charles Nicastro.

Friends will be received from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Tuesday March 15, 2022, in Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 11 Russell Street, Warren PA. A Funeral Mass will be held there at 3:00pm, with the Rev. Steven Schreiber, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Donald E.
