James W. “Jim” Rice
James W. “Jim” Rice, 79, of Frewsburg, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at his home with family by his side.
He was a lifelong resident of Frewsburg, born Nov. 9, 1942, the son of George and Lillian Hanson Rice. He was a graduate of Frewsburg High School class of 1961.
Jim was an avid sportsman and knew the Conewango swamp like the back of his hand. He grew up working for his two uncles: Willis and Clarence, with Hanson Brothers Construction. He later worked with Mosher Mobile Milling in Lottsville, Pa., and finally finished his career building his own business that started with family friend, Lanny Sheffield.
Jim is survived by his two children: Julin (Greg) and Justin (Guillaume Dubeau); two grandchildren: Lilyann (Jon) and Autumn; two siblings: Janette Tuller and John (Alice) Rice; his niece, Jonette Rice and nephews: Tim (Michelle) Rice and Mark (Jennifer) Tuller; his wife, Deanna; four step-children: Kevin (Brenda) Peterson, Jenifer Gustafson, Wendy (Wade) Kuchenbrod and Marcy (Jeff) Peterson; and eight step-grandchildren: Ronna (Chad) Currie, Cierra Peterson, Brianna (Alex) Peterson, Alyssa Peterson, TJ (Laura) Gustafson, Kevin Gustafson, Brittany (Conner) Christensen, and Shelby Kuchenbrod.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister, Joanne J. Cooper; and two nephews: Steven and Michael Tuller.
A private celebration of life will be held this summer at Rice’s camp. No visitation will be observed.
