Charles L. Telford, 78, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, with his family by his side.
A lifelong resident, he was born April 21, 1943, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late Charles L. Telford, Sr. and the late Beatrice Carlson Telford Angelo.
He was a 1961 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Navy.
Chuck was employed as a senior sales executive for Media One Radio Group in Jamestown. He worked in radio advertising in the Jamestown and surrounding area for over 55 years. Ever so proud, he would remind people that, “I got paid to sell air.”
As an active member of the Jamestown community, Chuck was a member of the Jamestown Lions Club for over 50 years serving in many leadership capacities. He was a member and secretary of the Chautauqua Lake Region Antique Automobile Club and loved driving his 1950 Ford. He was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Viking Lodge.
Chuck was a past member of the Jamestown Babe Ruth World Series Committee and played an instrumental role in the formation of the Jamestown Midget Football League where he was a past commissioner. He was also a member of the Veterans Memorial Park Commission.
As a sports fan, Chuck was an avid Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed attending several games with his sons.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Jerrilyn V. Bull Telford, whom he married Aug. 1, 1964; three sons: Robert C. Telford of Los Gatos, Calif., Richard D. (Amanda) Telford of Sinclairville, N.Y., and Ryan S. Telford of Norwich, Conn.; five grandchildren: Katelynn Telford of Fredonia, N.Y., Andrew Telford of Buffalo, N.Y., Nathaniel Telford and Benjamin Telford both of Norwich, Conn. and Alex Serrano of Sinclairville, N.Y.; a sister, Cheryl Macey-Fugate of Corry, Pa.; and a brother, Michael Telford of Kennedy, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his father. Charles, Sr. who died Jan. 9, 1971; and his mother, Beatrice “Tillie” Angelo who died Jan. 22, 2021
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022, in the Lind Funeral Home where a Jamestown Lions Club memorial service will be led at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
