Jarold O. Bergman “Jerry”

Jarold O. Bergman “Jerry”, 91, of Ashville, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 5, 2022. He was born Feb. 22, 1930, the son of Milton and Mildred Price Bergman.

A 1948 graduate of Southwestern High School, Jarold spent most of his life raising his family and farming on Wellman Road with his beloved wife, Carole Lane Bergman, whom he married in 1957. They attended the Watts Flats United Methodist Church together for many years.

He retired from a long career at Struthers Wells in Warren, Pa. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served his country during the Korean War.

Jarold was as adventurous as he was frugal and would hitch hike home from Port Hueneme in California. to his parents’ home in Ashville, N.Y., crisscrossing the continental U.S., many times wearing his dress blues. He was known for raising stellar sweetcorn, pumpkins, and flowers. Spending time with his family was his most treasured accomplishment.

Jarold was the full time pitcher for neighborhood kickball games and chief fire tender for campfires where he would lead the singing in his baritone voice. He loved to hunt with his son, walk his dog, and eat good food.

Jarold is survived by his daughters: Cindy Bergman Weise, Heidi (Dean) Ottaway and Anne (Emmett) Tenpas; his grandchildren: CodyAnne (Aaron) Chambers, Rachel (Bill) Denz, Becca (Brody) Carpenter, Nathan (Lidia) Ottaway, Kara (Steven) Akin, Leanna Bergman and John Bergman; and great-grandsons: Will Denz, Henry Jarold Denz and Owen Carpenter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; his son Jarl; and siblings: Victor Bergman, Dale Bergman, Bruce Bergman, Carol Bergman Carpenter, and Alene Bergman Montgomery.

A private family service will be held as the immediate family gathers.
