L. Eugene Sanden

L. Eugene Sanden, 92, of Youngsville, Pa., died Saturday morning, Dec. 4, 2021, at Rouse Home, Youngsville, Pa. Gene was born March 26, 1929, in Warren, Pa. He was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Pauline Putnam Sanden. Gene was formerly of Warren, Pa., and Jamestown, N.Y.

He has resided in Youngsville for the past 38 years. Gene was a 1947 graduate of Sugar Grove High School. Gene served with the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War. He was employed with the Jamestown Police Department for 10 years and was a warehouse manager for S.M. Flickenger’s for 24 years, retiring in 1991. He was a former member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Jamestown, N.Y., where he was past president of their Holy Name Society and past president and treasurer of St. Vincent DePaul Society. He had served as past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1306 and a hcarter member of the Marco Polo Club of Jamestown, N.Y., He was also a former member of St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, Youngsville, Pa,., where he had served as an altar server. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Warren, Pa. Gene was a member of the Warren Senior Center where he was a past board member for 16 years and was their cook for the Sunday dinners. He was also a member of the Youngsville American Legion Post 658 and Warren Moose Lodge 109. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his four children: Frederick C. Sanden and wife, Susan of Portland, Ore., Christal A. Rogers and husband, Patrick of Deltona, Fla, David E. Sanden and wife, Valerie of Coto De Caza, Calif.., and John E. Sanden and wife, Nadine of Lake Forest, Calif.; his companion, Shirley Littlefield Schmatz of Youngsville, Pa.; two brothers: Harvey E. Sanden and wife, Catherine of Cleveland, Ohio and Glenn C. Sanden of Holtville, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa A. Nuhfer Sanden, whom he married Sept. 30, 1950, in Warren, Pa.. and who died March 31, 2015.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at 10 a,m., at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 11 Russell St., Warren, Pa., with Father. Stephen Schreiber, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Jamestown, N.Y.
