Charles I. “Charlie” Sanders

Charles I. “Charlie” Sanders, 70, of Sugar Grove, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at Corry Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 25, 1951, in Jamestown, N.Y., he was the son of the late Robert and Marilyn Martindale Sanders.

Charlie graduated from Eisenhower High School in the class of 1969, where he enjoyed playing football. He was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan and will be remembered for running the chicken barbecues for local charity community events. He umpired his sons Little League games and in his younger days, he loved to golf.

He was a charter member of the Sugar Grove Sons of the American Legion and a member of the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department.

He retired from Cummins Engine and, in earlier years was a truck driver and worked in the oil fields, and had been a heavy equipment operator.

Surviving are three sons: Hobart (Katherine Little) Sanders of Sugar Grove, Karl “Sy” Sanders of Sugar Grove and Joshua (Shauna) Sanders of Warren; one brother, George Sanders of Sugar Grove; four sisters: Melanie Peterson of Warren, Sharill Thach of Sugar Grove, Karen Sanders of Kennedy, N.Y., and Loren Sanders of Wyoming; his former wife, Katherine Liffner of Sugar Grove; eight grandchildren: Alexander Sanders, Emma Sanders, Carly Sanders, Eric Little, Chevy Sanders, Chris Parker, Josh Parker and Moe Parker; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Eric Sanders, Aug, 22, 2003; three brothers: Chris, Marvin and Hobart Sanders.

Friends will be received at the Sugar Grove Branch of McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc., 117 Main St., Sugar Grove, Pa., on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, from noon to 1 p.m., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Wesleyan Cemetery in Sugar Grove and will be private.
