Mary Edna Van Horn Griffith, 87, of Jamestown, N.Y., died at 10:11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Greenhurst, N.Y.

A Jamestown area resident most of her life, Mary was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Busti, N.Y., the daughter of the late Walter E. and Marion Cree Van Horn.

Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dale A. Griffith, whom she married July 14, 1954.

She was a 1952 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.

She was a member of Fenton Historical Society, Manasota Genealogical Society, and the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings, Jamestown. Her hobbies were genealogy and travel. She completed her genealogy to the year 34 BC, and she never missed a library between Florida and Bangor, Maine.

Before her retirement, she was employed at The First National Bank in Jamestown and The Bank of Jamestown.

Mary is also survived by her daughter, Paulette (Richard) Severtson of Busti, N.Y.; a son, Dana (Loni) Griffith of Bemus Point, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Scott (Beth) Severtson of Alexander, N.C., Chad Severtson (Anh Lam) of McLean, Va., Caroline Griffith (Joe Rice) of Jamestown, N.Y., Kyle (Cathryn) Griffith of Rochester, N.Y., and Hannah Griffith of Buffalo, N.Y.; and great-granddaughters: Margaret, Mira and Alexa Severtson of Asheville, N.C. Mary really enjoyed and was very proud of her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Ann Griffith; a son, Brian Alan Griffith; and two sisters: Doris Swanson and Ruth Boardman.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, in the Busti Cemetery. The Rev. Luke Fodor, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will officiate.

The family respectfully asks that guests wear face masks and social distancing practices be observed.
