David L. Fuller

WESTFIELD – David L. Fuller, 73, of Chestnut Street, Westfield, N.Y., passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at his home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1948, in Westfield, N.Y., the son of the late Lester and Jean (Bennett) Fuller, David had resided in West-field his whole life.

After attending WACS class of 1966, Dave was drafted by the US Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War with the highly decorated Black-horse Regiment of the 11th Armored Calvary Div. B – Troop right alongside his brother, SSGT Randy Full-er from 1969-71. While clearing a jungle one day, Dave’s ACAV ran over a mine, severely wounding him and all other occupants. Dave returned to the field after a brief recovery to finish out his tour before being honorably discharged and receiving the Purple Heart award.

When Dave returned home, he began employment with the Village of Westfield Street Department where he retired after 35 years of service as an equipment operator.

Dave’s passion for playing ball began as a youth with the ‘Bird Street Gang ‘and continued for several decades of fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball with many of his oldest and closest friends.

He was also an avid Raiders, NASCAR, and Alex Trebek fan. Dave was definitely NOT a Cowboys, Earnhardt or Pat Sajak fan, he’d want that known!

He was a life member of the Westfield American Legion Post 327, Westfield Veterans of Foreign War Post 6764,and Loyal Order of Moose 118 also of Westfield.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Randall L. Fuller who passed on May 8, 2018; and his faithful canine companion, ‘Bailey’ who died just recently.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons: David D. (Luana Casbohm) Fuller and Greg L. (Angela) Full-er, of Westfield; his beloved grandchildren: (who he loved watching play baseball) Lucas G. and Max J. Fuller; his loving sister, Linda F. Strada of West Virginia; his uncles: Lester C. Bennett of Buffalo and Floyd L. Bennett of Rochester; and aunt, Pauline S. Wright of Mayville.

Memorial contributions in honor of Dave may be made to the Northern Chautauqua County Canine Rescue, 7540 N Gale St, West-field, NY 14787.

Funeral arrangements are being cared for and provided by the MORSE FUN-ERAL HOME, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, NY.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at the American Legion Post 327 in Westfield, NY at 1p.m.
