Norma J. Gervaise

MAYVILLE– Norma J. Gervaise, 88, of Mayville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 at the Heritage Green Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Fort Worth, Tex-as, the daughter of the late Dewey Admiral Barber and Georgia Rose Morse Miller.

Norma graduated from Mayville Central School in 1951. She and Henry R. Gervaise were married on Oct. 27, 1951, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in May-ville. Together they raised four children. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild for many years.

Norma was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed nature and the out-doors, especially bird- watching. She started her own small handmade business, Thistle Hill Country Herb Shop, run from her home. She tended and harvested herb and flower gar-dens to make into hand-made potpourris and gifts. She and Henry attended the Art Market together during the summers at the Chautauqua Institution, where they would sell their hand-made gift items. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Norma is survived by her husband; Henry R. Gervaise of Mayville; three children: Amanda (Michael) Janisch of Dunkirk, Lisa (Alan) Holbrook of Westfield, and Philip H. (Janet) Gervaise of Sherman; four grandchildren: Gregory Seyler, Kellie (Michael) Seyler, Alexandra (Victor III) Matos and Marie (Sean) Mahoney; and nine great-grandchildren: Kierra, Kayla and Gregory Seyler, Kaleb and Brennan Seyler, Juliana Mahoney, and Aviana and Isabelle Matos.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rory Gervaise; and her stepfather, J. Forrest Miller.

A private funeral will be held at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mayville at the convenience of the family.
