DeForest U. Tennies Jr

RANDOLPH — DeForest U. Tennies Jr., 79, of Jamestown Road, Randolph, town of Conewango, passed away Saturday (September 11, 2021) at UPMC Chautauqua.

Mr. Tennies was born May 19, 1942, in the town of Napoli, N.Y., the son of the late DeForest U. and Amanda (Waggoner) Tennies Sr.

Junior was a graduate of Northwest High School, Albion, Pa., He retired from the New York State Department of Corrections, serving as the facilities nurse at the Lakeview Shock Incarceration in Brocton. In years earlier he had been a nursing supervisor at the former Tri-County Hospital in Gowanda and WCA Hospital in Jamestown.

He and his wife Norma are members of the Church they founded, and served as co-pastors of Faith Lighthouse Chapel in East Randolph., N.Y., for the past 33 Years. He had also served the church as their Food Pantry operations manager. He enjoyed serving the Lord and shopping on Ebay and being on Facebook.

He is survived by his Norma Marie (Franklin) Billings- Tennies; two daughters: Barbara Billings of East Randolph, and the Rev. Beth Hayner of Randolph; two sons: Thomas (Amanda) Virginia, and Brian (Barbara Jean) Billings of Mill Hall, Pa.; and two stepdaughters. Cathy and Jayn;, as well as many, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Glenn, Lloyd, Newton, John, Mary, Ella and Nellie.

Due to the Corona virus, there will be no services held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced by the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, Randolph.
