Carl E. Behm

Carl E. Behm, 80, of Dunnellon, Fla., formerly of Westfield, N.Y., passed away peacefully, Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at St.. Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa. from heart failure with close friends and family at his side.

He was born June 3, 1941 in Lockport, N.Y., the son of the late Walter H. and Mildred (Simons) Behm.

He grew up in Ripley, N.Y., and remained there until his children were grown, then moved to Westfield in the mid-eighties. Most recently, he was residing in Dunnellon, Fla.

Survivors are a son, Eric Behm, a daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Dressel; five grandchildren,: Casey and Hannah Dressel, Alexandra and Nathan Behm and Danielle Faulkner; six great-grandchildren; and a friend and companion for many years, Tracey Brunecz.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Barbara E, (Tefft) Behm; a stepmother, Isabelle Behm; a brother, John Behm; and a daughter-in-law, Manuela Behm.

Carl graduated from Ripley Central School in 1959. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959-63, commissioned aboard the USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He worked for the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department as a sergeant investigator, senior investigator, district attorney’s office, Chautauqua County, town of Westfield judge, Monroe Marina, Barcelona, N.Y., golf cart sales for Herb Rice, Sherman, N.Y., and security, Niagara Mohawk, Dunkirk, N.Y.

Carl had the gift of making friends wherever he went and he loved to socialize. He loved to share stories of his and his partners’ experiences in the Sheriff’s Department.

He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and always had photos of them to share with friends. He was an excellent cook and one of his specialties was cooking and carving a turkey, whether it be a Thanksgiving turkey or one cooked in the backyard under a can. He loved shopping for and purchasing new vehicles and motorcycles. I n earlier days, he went on many motorcycle trips with his wife, Barbara and their friends and was an avid golfer.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at the convenience of the family, date and time to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield.
