Philip Carl Bemis
Philip Carl Bemis, 61, of Corry Pa., went to heaven, Aug/ 4, 2021. He passed away at his home where he fought a valiant fight against an extended illness.
Phil was born in Corry, on June 10, 1960 to Merton and Arlene (Bayle) Bemis.
He attended Clymer Central School, graduating in 1978. Following High School, Phil worked for a short time at Klings in Mayville. He then moved on to Maplevale Farms in French Creek starting in the warehouse and working his way up to become their coffee and chemical specialists. He eventually moved on to C. A. Curtze, a family owned company in Erie where he spent the next 30 years selling food until he retired in January. The management at Curtze were super supportive as he worked through cancer later in his career.
Phil was a people person. He loved talking with any-one and everyone. He would often strike up conversations with strangers and show a great concern for their life. In the past. he was a great runner, running many marathons. He also was a great bowler and managed to bowl multiple 300 games. Even though he loved people, his favorite place was on his John Deere working in the woods on sap lines, cutting trees and in the spring mak-ing maple syrup.
Philip is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lynne (Westley), whom he married on Dec. 17, 1977; two children, both of whom he was so proud of for their service in the USMC. Logan and his wife, Amber and Bridget Bemis and her significant other, Peter Young. He also was the happy grandparent of four grandchildren: Arleigh and Wyatt as well as Saige and Kyle. Philip is also survived by his mother Arlene (Bayle) Bemis; sisters: Susan (Paul) Spink, and Jennifer (Les) Utegg; brothers: Gordon (Linda) Bemis, Kevin Bemis, Jon (Janie) Bemis, Brian (Linda) Bemis, and Jeff (Claudia) Bemis. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Merton Bemis as well as a brother, Christopher Bemis; and a sister, Kerry Watrous.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m., at the Clymer United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be proceeding the memorial from 1- 2:30, also at the Clymer Methodist Church on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Phil’s memory to the Clymer United Methodist Church of Clymer or the Visiting Nurse Association of Erie County (2253 West Grandview Boulevard Erie PA) who provided Hospice Services.
