Gregory A. Smith

Gregory A. Smith Joined his wife, Peggy on Aug. 9, 2021, a peaceful passing for a kind and gentle man who brought joy to many people in his 102 years.

He is survived by his four children: Marsha Smith, Eileen (Malur) Balaji, Ben (Alyson Austin) Smith, Mary M. (William) Stubler; nine grandchildren: Nick Balaji, Mimi (Dan) Yonkin, Natalie Balaji, Amelia (Brad) Parker, Pete Balaji, Bill Stubler, Julie (Mike) Pacini, Teresa (Dan) Conway, Carley Smith; and nine great-grandchildren.

Greg was born May 9, 1919, in Jamestown, N.Y., and the family moved to Rochester in 1959. He served in the Pacific Theater in World War II from 1941-45, and love of country was a hallmark of his life. Greg was a skilled craftsman: a printer with both D&C and Times Un-ion, furniture maker for his family and for the VOA, expert gardener.

He enjoyed playing har-monica, golfing, bicycling, and made the greatest ham-burgers for family picnics. He and his wife traveled throughout the United States, Ireland, England and France.

The family is grateful to Greg’s caregivers for their compassionate friendship and skilled assistance, and to the Veterans’ Adminis-tration for its support and assistance in his final years.

Funeral liturgy will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13, at St John of Rochester Parish in Fairport. In honor of our Dad: please say a kind word, share a smile, give to someone in need. We are grateful for the years we had with him. We shall not see his like again.
