Lucille J. Neckers

Lucille J. Neckers passed away, Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. A wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, mentor, and friend Lucille spent 90 incredible years gracing countless lives with her quick wit, sarcasm, seemingly never-ending work ethic, faith, and extreme dedication to doing EVERYTHING to its fullest extent. She started working at Neckers Company in the summer of 1951, and married her lifelong sweetheart, “Boo” on Nov. 9, that same year. They spent decades living, loving and working side-by-side as third-generation owners of the store. (Take our word for it- Neckers Company store shelves have never been cleaner or more perfectly organized than the years she spent within those walls!)

Besides her passion for the store, she loved landscaping their yard which extended to planting and tending the flower boxes in the center of town next to the parking lot. Her natural love of plants spread to starting a Christmas Tree farm that she and Boo painstakingly nurtured on the property passed down to them from her parents. The promise to God was to use the crop to bless others, which they did year after year.

Boo and Lucille would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this November. What a gift to have love and servanthood be the foundation of her family for so many years! She loved her husband and her family but most of all she loved Jesus and spent over many years teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir and serving on many church committees and boards at the Clymer United Methodist Church.

One of the last things she said to her children was, “time goes so fast.” She leaves that with us to remember to spend our time wisely, especially with those we love. Her welcoming smile, grace and wisdom will be missed deeply by her family and community.

Lucille is survived by: her three sons: David (Darlene) Neckers, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Timothy (Denise) Neckers, of Longmont, Colo., and Barry (Kathy) Neckers, of Clymer, N.Y.; her daughter, Lucinda Legters, of Clymer, N.Y.; grandchildren: Jeremy (Maggie) Neckers, Shannon (Brandon) Kucharski, Kurt (Sherrey), Jeff (Erin) Neckers, Hannah (Jesse) Bryerton. Seth (Chassity) Neckers; Meagan (Will) Fiamella and Evan (Morgan) Legters; also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and expecting two more.

Lucille is predeceased by her parents, Duane and Margaret (Bayle) Bemis; two brothers: Russell and Dale Bemis; and her son-in-law, Eric Legters.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Clymer United Methodist Church, 573 Clymer-Sherman Road, Clymer, N.Y., where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Holland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Neckers’ memory may be made to the Clymer United Methodist Church or the Clymer Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements by David J. Dengler, Spitzer Funeral Home.
