Beverly J. Ostrander Olson Oste

Beverly J. Ostrander Olson Oste

Known for her beautiful blue eyes and loving heart, Bev believed the best things in life are the people we love and the memories made along the way. She also believed that somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly as symbols of God’s happiness and joy for each of us. That’s where you’ll find her now.

Beverly went to her heavenly home on May 25, 2021, on what would have been her 75th wedding anniversary to her first husband and father of her children, Ralph C. Olson, who passed away in 1998.

She was born Jan. 28, 1927, in Fredonia, the daughter of the late Mead Fargo and Alta Mae Ostrander. Graduating from Falconer Central High School in 1944, where she received an Achievement Award in English, Bev moved to Seattle, Wash. to help her late sister, Lana whose husband, G. Robert Hussey, was stationed there during World War II. She was employed by the Seattle Port of Embarkation, one of the United States Army’s busiest terminals for moving troops and supplies overseas.

Moving back to Western New York in 1946, Bev met and married Ralph C. Olson, had five children, and worked for the Jamestown Telephone Company until moving to Florida in 1978. In Florida, she was employed by Gale Associates Realty/Real Estate One as relocation coordinator, and later sold life and health policies throughout the state for a major insurance company. Prior to retirement, she was employed by CNL Financial Group in the accounting department for 17 years.

In 2004, Bev married her high school sweetheart, James A. Oste, whose wife Darlene E. Carlson Oste passed away in 2000. Bev and Jim spent many happy years as snowbirds between Falconer and Oviedo, Fla., until he left this world in September 2012.

Bev’s survivors include: son Gary M. (Anne) Olson of Ashville; daughter Jenifer Olson of Oviedo, Fla.; son Craig Olson (Suzan Dale) of Tavares, Fla.; granddaughters Nicole Olson Seeley and Erica Olson (Brendan) Carter of Jamestown; great-grandchildren Becca and Cadan Carter of Jamestown; nephew Robert (Nancy) Hussey of Dansville; cousin Bette Lynn Stonebraker of Lancaster; and, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins across the country whom she loved dearly.

Bev’s extended family includes: brother-in-law George (Sylvia) Oste of Jamestown; daughter-in-law Christine Oste of Jamestown; daughter Christine Lyon of Jamestown; grandchildren Carrie Lyon of Falconer, Kirk (Kristie) Lyon of Lakewood, Jay (Lauren) Oste of Jamestown, Leasen (Matthew) Robinson of Jamestown, and Jessica (Robert) Shultz of Butler, Pa. Extended great-grandchildren include Lydia, Annalise and Emmeline James Potter; Drew and Ty Oste; Dexter Robinson; Kole Lyon; and, Sawyer Layne Shultz.

In addition to her beloved husbands, Bev was preceded in death by sons William and R. Scott Olson, sister Lana Hussey Abbott, grandson-in-law Michael Seeley, and extended son-in-law Wayne Oste.

A graveside service will be held at noon at Sunset Hill Cemetery on Thursday, Aug. 12, with Pastor Phil Roushey of Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg officiating. A luncheon at Zion Lutheran Church will follow.

Over the years, Bev was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and St. John Lutheran Church in Winter Park, Fla., and volunteered for various charitable organizations. The family suggests memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church Youth Ministry or the American Red Cross.
