Alice Swartz

Alice Louise Beers Swartz passed peacefully away Wednesday evening, July 14, 2021m with her youngest son, Bradley, his wife, Valerie, and their son Aaron at her bedside.

Born March 8, 1933, in Lewistown, Pa., Alice graduated from Lewistown High School in 1951 and later in life obtained her nursing degree from James-town Community College. She worked at Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown, N.Y., for many years and later as a private duty nurse before retiring. Her love of caring for others continued by providing transportation for those in need to Roswell Cancer Center and other medical appointments.

She married Karl Swartz in 1951 and they were mar-ried for 63 years until his death in 2014, living in Lewistown, Harrisburg, Gettysburg Pa., Rochester, Cobleskill, Falconer and Jamestown. N.Y. Karl Swartz was an assistant pastor at Reformation Ltheran Church in Rochester for four years and at Zion Lutheran Church Cobleskill from 1969-76. They then moved and lived in Falconer, where Karl served as pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 20 years until he and Alice retired in Jamestown. Alice moved to Lakewood, Ohio in March 2020.

She loved camping, entertaining others and cooking for her family, often sharing food with those in need. Alice was involved in many choral groups and sang as a soprano soloist throughout her life. Her passion for choral music and opera was a constant through the years.

She served for over 40 years as part of the women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Alice is survived by her four children: Douglas (Mary) of Cobleskill, Ran-dall (Deborah) of Hopewell, Va., Karen of Camp Hill, Pa., and Bradley (Valerie) of Lakewood, Ohio. She enjoyed her 10 grandchildren: Joseph Polemeni of Virginia, Kari Massarotti of Pennsylvania, Kristen (Glenn) Brown of Pennsylvania, Kathryn (Rob) Hagstrom of Pennsylvania, Abigail (Joshua) Khoury of Virginia, Nathaniel Swartz of Pennsylvania,, Joshua, Aaron, Micah and Benjamin Swartz, all from Ohio; as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

She was the eldest of five with three surviving siblings: Bob (Elaine) Beers and Charlie (Anne) Beers and sister, Peggy (Robert) Plank all of Pennsylvania.

Alice was predeceased by her husband, Karl (2014); and her sister, Dorie Crownover (Dick) in 2019.

Alice was a great prayer warrior for her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

A memorial celebration of her life is planned for Aug. 21, 2021, at 11 a.m., at St Timothy’s Lutheran Church at 3748 NYS Route 430, Bemus Point
