Betty Lee (Johnson) Tyra
Betty Lee (Johnson) Tyra, 98, passed away peacefully June 22, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Jamestown, N.Y. She was born April 20, 1923, and raised in Glen Ferris, West Virginia and moved to Western New York with her young family in the early 1950s. A resident of Lewiston, N.Y., for many years, she was a great wife, mom, gramma and homemaker. She was an avid reader and golfer and longtime member of Niagara Frontier Country Club.
She is survived by her devoted sons and daughters-in-law: Arthur and Melody Tyra of Henderson, Nev., Eric and Cynthia Tyra of Fairhope, Ala., and Timur and Elizabeth Tyra of Jamestown, N.Y., six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also cared deeply for her three foster sons, Robert Heilman (Pamela Davis Heilman) of Buffalo, William Heilman of Washington DC, and Dr. Raymond (Carrie)Heilman of Scottsdale, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Betty Martin Johnson of Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, four sisters, two brothers and by her beloved husband of 58 years, Roderic S. Tyra.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lutheran Social Services for their compassionate care for Betty.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
