Sandra Yvonne (Densmore) Mitchell

Sandra Yvonne (Densmore) Mitchell, 81, of Portland, died April 29, 2021 at Absolut of Westfield. She suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and fell at home in November.

She was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Warren, Pa., to Archie and Edna (Nielsen) Densmore. The family located to Brocton in 1946. They moved to an apartment behind Densmore’s Restaurant as her father was taking over the family business. She and her sister Sallie told stories of the many jobs they had woring for the family. Peeling potatoes was her least favorite chore. In the day, the railroad was quite prominent on Central Avenue, The restaurant was very busy because of the railroad workers. She had many fond memories of’the gang’ of kids who lived nearby. They played baseball and all sorts of games, boys and girls together on teams. Lifetime friendships.

In 1957 she married Ronald Mitchell. They were married for over 60 years. He passed away on Oct. 15, 2018.

She is survived by her sisters: Sallie (Joseph) Muscato of Dunkirk and Deborah (Ralph) Vandaveer of St Petersburg Fla. She is also survived by her children: Yvonne (Michael) Burgun of Brocton, Ronald (Kim) Mitchell of Portland, and Michael (Michelle) Mitchell of Dunkirk. Her grandchildren are Brandon (Tara) Mitchell of Hawaii, Carly (Alex) Davis of Dewittville, and Michael A Mitchell of Dunkirk; and a stepgranddaughter, Meghan Courtney of Portland. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Sandy and her husband had a grape farm in Portland. She traveled with her husband as he worked in the drilling industry and when he drove his own semi around the country for Keen Transport. She lived for her husband. They were very close.

Sandra chose to donate her body to UB Medical School. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Portland Fire Department. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
